Once the hull is dry, you can move onto the detailing stage. If there are any areas of chalky or oxidized gelcoat, it’s worth using an abrasive cleaner like a rubbing compound. These cut back the top surface of the gelcoat to reveal an unoxidized layer beneath, leaving a clean, shiny surface ready for boat wax.

The key ingredients in antifouling bottom paints include copper, biocides, algaecides, Teflon, vinyl, and proprietary two-part bottom coatings that create a hard, slippery biofilm that prevents organisms from attaching the hull.
